Washington Artisan Cheesemakers Festival

This week, I’m stoked about a cheesy event I get to take part in outside of work that doesn’t involve sitting on my couch and eating cheese with the boyfriend. (Not that that isn’t my idea of a good time, because it really is — but this is way more exciting.)

My colleagues Alicia and Janna and I are headed to the Washington Artisan Cheesemakers Festival this Saturday, September 24

The festival will showcase some of the cheesemakers who call Washington state their home. And in case you didn’t know it, there are close to 70 artisan cheesemakers in this state. That’s kind of a big deal.

Fittingly, while we’re there, we will not only eat all the cheese and learn all about it, but we’ll also attend a seminar put on by Julia Powers of the Peterson Cheese Company. She’s going to give us the DL on what makes Washington’s cheese scene so special in a talk titled, “Old World meets New World – Washington’s New Traditions in Cheesemaking.”

Beyond further educating myself about Washington’s cheesemaking prowess, I’m most looking forward to learning more about Black Sheep Creamery, Laurel’s Crown Artisan Cheese, and Monteillet Fromagerie. You can see the full list of the attending cheesemakers and their cheeses here.

Unfortunately, the festival is already sold out. But fortunately, I will tell you all about the amazing things we witness while we are there. So check back soon for that.

In the meantime, you can read this article from The Stranger that was written by Corina Zappia, my former co-editor at Pacifica Literary Review.
